This week, the Government's Chief Medical Officer, Prof Chris Whitty, published his 2024 annual report 'Health in Cities', outlining a broad range of health opportunities and challenges for city populations.
Commenting on the report, Prof Nick Fox, Group Leader, UK DRI at UCL said:
"It is excellent that the Chief Medical Officer's report draws attention to the association between air pollution and dementia. Given the devastating impact of dementia, it is vitally important that we do what we can to reduce any modifiable risks.
While some risk factors such as smoking, high blood pressure, cholesterol can be addressed at an individual level, others such as air pollution in cities, require cross-Government action in order to reduce the risk of dementia."
