Parkinson's Research Centre

My vision is to build a centre fully integrated with people with Parkinson’s and which will become one of the world’s leading centres for discovery science and translation that will deliver new ideas for better diagnosing and treating Parkinson’s in the future.

Today in the UK, Parkinson’s affects 166,000 people, and it’s on the rise. By 2050, the number of people with Parkinson’s worldwide will double to 25 million. People affected by Parkinson’s experience a range of symptoms including tremor, and slowness of movement and non-motor symptoms including changes to mental health and cognitive decline. The condition is progressive and currently incurable.
In partnership with Parkinson’s UK, the Parkinson’s Research Centre brings together leading researchers dedicated to further understanding the causes of Parkinson’s. The team aim to translate their findings to develop better ways to diagnose and monitor the condition, and ultimately to find new treatments to prevent, halt, and cure Parkinson's.
The Centre will identify mechanisms of Parkinson’s that will provide new approaches to prediction and prevention, alongside the development and testing of new treatments.
The experiences of people with Parkinson’s will be placed at the heart of the PRC’s research, to ensure that it is relevant and impactful, and delivers advances to the clinic that will transform the lives of people living with Parkinson’s.
