HEAT-Net 26 : Frontiers in Research on Neurodegenerative Disorders

The Frontiers in Research on Neurodegenerative Disorders conference is the 5th HEAT-Net meeting and the first time the meeting will be held in the UK. The meeting will focus on advances in research into Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, and ALS.

The meeting includes keynote talks from international leaders in the field, as well as early career researcher speakers. Confirmed speakers include Sir John Hardy (UK DRI at UCL), Maria Grazia Spillantini (Cambridge), Lars Lannfelt (Uppsala University), Brad Hyman, Brian Bacskai, (Harvard Medical School) and Pam McLean (Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville). Topics include genetics, molecular mechanisms of disease, biomarkers, and therapeutics. Poster sessions with catered lunches will facilitate discussions between delegates and exhibitors.  See linked programme for full details.

The conference will bring the Harvard European Alumni Training Network (HEAT-Net) meeting to the UK for the first time. HEAT-Net originated from a constellation of Harvard-trained European clinicians and researchers working in the field of neurodegeneration. After returning to Europe, HEAT-Net members implemented a network that enabled us to maintain the same high-level of academic research, contribute to the training of new generations of scientists, and maintain strong connections to our mentors at Harvard Medical School. To that end, we have hosted four conferences throughout Europe (Barcelona 2017, Lübeck 2018, Göttingen 2021, Cadiz 2024). These began as small gatherings of our groups and trainees interacting with the host institutes and have grown into an international meeting attracting larger and larger audiences (80 in our last meeting in Cadiz) with a focus on providing opportunities for early career researchers to interact with established “big names” from the US and Europe. This year, for the first time, our meeting will be held in the UK, and we are looking for sponsorship to support free attendance of early career researchers.

Attendance is FREE! Register your place now.
