International fellowship launched between India's Centre for Brain Research and the UK DRI

We are delighted to announce the launch of a new postdoctoral fellowship initiative in collaboration with the Centre for Brain Research (CBR) at the Indian Institute of Science.

The fellowship programme builds on the landmark partnership established between the two institutions earlier in 2025, which aims to create a dynamic, interconnected research ecosystem and accelerate scientific understanding and innovation in healthy brain ageing. The CBR, now entering its second decade of operation, aims to unravel the complexities of brain health and disease through large-scale population studies and cutting-edge research approaches.

The four-year fellowships based at the CBR in Bangalore, India, will focus on developing and scaling minimally invasive digital and blood-based tools and biomarkers that, when applied to India's diverse population cohorts, will accelerate understanding of dementias from identifying people at risk through to monitoring disease progression. Fellows will benefit from spending up to three months per year at a UK DRI Centre, fostering deep collaboration between the two research communities.

Identifying the next generation of leaders who will work together to connect and grow our understanding of ageing cohorts and biomarkers between UK and India is hugely exciting. UK DRI is delighted to partner with the Centre for Brain Research in launching this bespoke programme. The fellows will be at the forefront of developing scalable, minimally invasive tools that could transform how we diagnose and monitor these conditions worldwide and, crucially, improve the lives of people affected.

Prof KVS Hari, Director, Centre for Brain Research, said:

"The CBR-UK DRI Postdoctoral Fellowship Program embodies CBR's commitment to collaboration and capacity-building for ageing brain research. We hope that the Fellows will serve as champions of the shared vision of CBR and UK DRI. We also look forward to the programme's continued contribution to advancing discovery, strengthening international partnerships, and training the next generation of research leaders."

Applications are now being accepted for the scheme which has a rolling deadline. Please read eligibility criteria carefully and find further information for the programme on the CBR website. Any queries should be directed towards cbr-ukdri-pdf@cbr-iisc.ac.in.
